In 2024, the number of firearms in America is likely over 466 million due to record breaking sales during the pandemic. By 2021, pistols were the most commonly owned firearm among gun owners, accounting for 82.7% of gun types owned by gun owners. Over 2/3rds of gun owners purchase guns for self-defense, but owning guns does not necessarily protect your safety without a secure gun storage plan.
From 2015 to 2022, Nearly one child gains access to a loaded firearm and unintentionally shoots themself or someone else every day in America—an average of 350 children a year, resulting in 1,083 people killed and 1,815 people wounded, and 92% of those victims and survivors were also children under 18.
